How People Opt In to Text Messages

Texts are sent by Pattern Racked (operated by Edak Consulting, LLC) on behalf of the leagues that use our platform.

Pattern Racked is league and tournament management software for pool leagues. Players who enter a tournament can choose to receive text messages when their match is ready to play: their table number, their opponent's name, and a link to the live bracket. Nobody receives a text without ticking an opt-in box themselves.

The consent wording

Every opt-in box on the site shows the same wording, filled in with the tournament and league name. Pattern Racked is always the named sender:

Text me match updates from Pattern Racked for Fall 9-Ball Open (UPL Jax): sign-up confirmation, table assignments, opponent and table changes. About one text per match. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out. Optional, not required to register. SMS Terms · Privacy Policy
  • The box is never pre-checked and is never required to register.
  • When someone ticks it, we record the time, where they opted in, and the exact wording they agreed to.
  • Texts go only to the phone number entered alongside the tick. One number per tournament entry.

1. Player registration

On a tournament's public registration page (patternracked.com/<league>/tournaments/<tournament>/), the player enters their name, email and phone. The opt-in box sits directly under the phone field.

2. Team registration

For team tournaments, the team captain registers the team on the same page and gives their own cell number. The same unchecked opt-in box appears under it. Only the captain's number receives texts.

3. Walk-up sign-up page

Players added at the event desk can sign up themselves at patternracked.com/<league>/tournaments/<tournament>/texts/. They pick their own name from the bracket, enter their cell number, and tick the same consent box. Because opting in is the only thing this page does, the box must be ticked to submit. A number already opted in for an entry can't be replaced from this page.

4. QR code

The tournament director's screen shows a QR code that opens the walk-up sign-up page above, so players at the event can scan it with their own phone. Scanning only opens the page; the player still enters their number and ticks the consent box themselves.

The confirmation text

As soon as someone opts in by any of the routes above, they receive this text:

Pattern Racked: You're signed up for match texts for Fall 9-Ball Open (UPL Jax). About 1 msg per match. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.

Opting out and help

Replying STOP to any message stops all texts; replying HELP returns help information. Help is also available at Kade@EdakConsulting.com. Msg & data rates may apply.
